George Sibley Bio

George was born and raised in Cape Breton, a small island on the East Coast of Canada, in the Province of Nova Scotia. Here in Cape Breton life moves at a slower pace, and we have learned to appreciate the simple things in life: nature, good food and the comfort and love of family. We are a proud people unashamed to call ourselves "Cape Bretoners". It is within this environment that I have learned that the most important things and the most beautiful things in life are often right in front of us. While a tree or a blade of grass may seem unimportant or a thing to marvel at elsewhere here they are very common. On this Island we realize that family and friends are not just names in a book or pictures on the wall, they are the most important things in our life. 

It is these ideals and this way of life, which motivates him to express my adoration and appreciation of the beauty of the people of Cape Breton. It is his hope that the photos on this site can give you a glimpse of how beautiful the people are on this “fair isle”.

George's  interest in photographic images has been with him for as long as he can remember. Many photo albums filled his home as a child and he remembers quite vividly hours spent looking at photos of family members both known and unknown to him. During his teen years a friend gave him an Nikon camera; He spent many days taking shots with that old Nikon. The high cost of film and processing discouraged him; yet the interest in photography did not diminish. It was in his adult life and the emergence of digital photography as a medium that his interest and passion in photography resurfaced.

After the purchase of his first digital camera he began to once again feel that same passion for photography. Many of his early attempts at photography were done with a simple point and shot camera, which while not overly impressive prints the did gave him opportunity to experiment with angles and exposure. Since that time equipment has been purchased and George has continuously striven to improve his skill.

He hopes that the images on this site will express to you the viewer his passion for photography.
